Stephen Fry twitters Not in my Cuppa support

Stephen Fry's TwitterStephen Fry is the latest celebrity to lend support to Not in my Cuppa by tweeting about the campaign and encouraging his followers to watch Molly the Cow’s video Our love is in your cornflakes.

Stephen tweeted: Do watch new @notinmycuppa vid from BBC3 mongrels creator with Kevin Eldon & @MollyTheCowWSPA http://bit.ly/ifRpHH – keep cows in fields!

Aiming to become the biggest animal love song since Kermit the Frog sang Rainbow Connection to Miss Piggy in 1979, Our Love is in Your Cornflakes tells the story of a farmer who has been forced to sell his beloved cow to the new mega farm which has driven him out of business.

To make the music and video, WSPA teamed up with Adam Miller – the creative brains behind BBC3′s cult adult puppet show Mongrels. The song was composed by Banks and Wag, who have composed for X Factor and the National Lottery.

Actress and comedian Ruth Bratt plays the voice of Molly the cow against Kevin Eldon’s farmer, and the crew cared so much about the issue they dedicated their time for free.

About the video

The story starts with the farmer reminiscing about the good old days before he had to sell Molly to a mega dairy (the same mega dairy that forced him out of business) and wondering about where she is now, and what she’s doing. He then dreams of rescuing Molly and it all turns a bit Officer & a Gentleman.

The song is a (tongue in cheek!) love song, stylistically sitting somewhere between musical Broadway and 80’s power ballad and is part of WSPA’s Not in my cuppa campaign which aims to raise awareness of the threat to Britain’s dairy industry presented by factory dairy farms.

Adam Miller said: “The idea behind our song and video was to bring the issue of mega dairies to as wide an audience as possible – to spread the message without also spreading depression and charity fatigue. To make people feel the way that I feel about the impact this type of farming will have, both on cows and on the countryside. And, just to be clear, I feel pretty sad and not a little bit angry.”

Kevin Eldon said: “I didn’t have to think twice when I was asked to join the campaign against all this. With the animal welfare charity WSPA and the guys who make BBC 3′s Mongrels, I’ve helped to make a music video where I sing with a cow. The cow was not harmed in the making of the video. In fact she was much better treated than I was.”

Great to see the Welsh Government stating that it is willing to step in and protect dairy farmers if the voluntary code fails between processors and farmers to ensure fairer contracts:
